Lead scoring

Lead scoring that tells your team who to call first

Lead scoring ranks leads by how likely they are to buy. ownyourclick scores every landing page lead by itself with a hot %: how long they were active on your page, how far they scrolled, how much they clicked and how often they came back, compared with your page's best leads. 70% and up is hot.

What is lead scoring?

Lead scoring gives each lead a number for how likely they are to buy, so a sales or calling team spends its time on the right people. There are two kinds:

  • Fit: who they are. Their job, company size or budget, usually from form answers.
  • Engagement: what they did. How much they read, clicked and came back.

ownyourclick does engagement scoring, from your own landing page, with nothing to set up.

How is the hot % calculated?

For each lead, ownyourclick measures:

  • Active time on your page, across all their visits since their last enquiry. A hidden tab or an idle visitor doesn't count.
  • Scroll: how far down the page they got.
  • Clicks: how many things they clicked.
  • Optionally, visits: how many times they came back.

Each measure is compared with your page's best leads: the 95th percentile of the page's newest 2,000 leads, so one outlier doesn't set the bar, or the highest so far while the page has fewer than 20 leads. Each counts up to 100%, and the hot % is their average. Imported leads aren't used to set the bar.

So a lead at 80% engaged about as much as your most engaged leads; one at 15% barely looked. 70% and up is hot (red); 40% and up is warm (yellow).

Why score on behaviour, not just form answers?

Two people fill in the same form with the same answers. One read your whole page for six minutes and came back twice before enquiring; the other filled it in twenty seconds after landing. Their form answers can't tell them apart. Their behaviour can, and it's the first thing a good salesperson would want to know before calling.

Where does your team see the score?

  • On the page's Leads tab, with the filters Warm and hot (40%+) and Hot only (70%+).
  • In your Google Sheet's HOT % column.
  • In webhooks (hot_pct) and the API, for your own tools.

The sheet and webhooks get the score as it was when the lead arrived; the dashboard keeps it up to date as more leads come in and the bar moves.

How should a calling team use it?

  1. Start each session with Hot only (70%+), newest first.
  2. Then work warm leads (40% to 69%).
  3. Leave cold leads to a WhatsApp automation that follows up by itself, and call them when they reply.
  4. Move each lead's status as you go, so nobody calls the same person twice.

What doesn't the hot % know?

It knows how someone behaved on your page, not their budget or whether they picked up the phone. It's relative to your page's own leads, so a hot % on one page isn't comparable with another page's. And it needs the tag on your page: leads from Facebook instant forms or typed in by hand don't have one. Use statuses and notes for everything the call tells you.

Questions

What do people ask?

Do I have to set up rules or points?+

No. The hot % works by itself, comparing each lead with your page's best leads. There are no point rules to write or keep up to date.

Is the score the same for every page?+

No. Each page has its own bar, set by its own leads, so a long sales page and a short sign-up page are each scored fairly.

Does it use third-party cookies or data about people from other sites?+

No. It's measured on your own page with a first-party script: no third-party cookies and no fingerprinting.

What if my page has only a few leads?+

Until a page has 20 leads, each measure is compared with the highest so far, so early scores move more. From 20 leads on, the 95th percentile is used and scores settle.

Can I see why a lead scored what it did?+

Yes. Open the lead on the Leads tab to see their active time, scroll, clicks and visit number, and add those columns to your sheet.
